14. Aprill + 21\/22 April (video training based on individual schedule)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This training will be held in English.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Estonian Doctoral School for Social Sciences invites doctoral researchers to a media communication training. Researchers are increasingly expected to be able to explain their own work and its significance to the general public, as well as to contribute on broader social issues as experts. The aim of this training is to help doctoral students to acquire skills for the clear and successful conveyance of their research and expertise in the media.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The training has two major objectives: to introduce the principles of (scientific) communication and public relations, which are illustrated by discussing real-life scenarios and video interviews.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, the discussions are supplemented with practical assignments that you to practice honing your core message and prepare for an expert interview. Individual video training is also included in the program, which consists of recording a short speech and a short interview, as well as analysing the video and receiving feedback on it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Video trainings will take place on April 21 or 22<\/strong> in groups of 4-5. Group allocations and the exact schedule of the video trainings will be agreed upon on the first day of the training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For participation, please fill in this form<\/strong><\/span><\/a> by April 7<\/strong>. A maximum of 20 PhD students will be accepted for this training.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Trainer: Brit Laak, teacher of television journalism at the Institute of Social Studies, University of Tartu. Brit is a former editor-host at Estonian Public Broadcasting, for the past ten years she has done interviewing trainings and story-telling courses for journalism students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
