This idea development workshop (IDW) (facilitated in English) is being organized under the Estonian Doctoral School, for doctoral students and early career researchers-supervisors interested in publishing in the Academy of Management Perspectives (AMP).
It is designed to help participants develop great ideas that are the foundation for well-crafted manuscripts suitable for submission to Academy of Management Perspective (AMP) Journal.
Master’s level students are also welcome to join.
The workshop will be delivered across two days as follows:
Information about publishing in AMP. The editors will discuss what makes a successful paper, why papers are rejected, and how to address the core challenges often seen in rejected papers.
- 12:00–13:00 – Arrival of participants, networking and light snacks + coffee
- 13:00–13:15 – Welcome Address (EBS)
- 13:15–13:45 – Introduction to AOM by Irina Burns, followed by Q&A
- 13:45–14:45 – Academy of Management Perspectives (AMP) Editor’s overview of the journal and introduction of the workshop
- 14:45–15:00 – Q&A session
- 15:00–15:15 – Break
- 15:15–16:15 – Academy of Management Perspectives Editor’s workshop on structuring a paper for AMP
- 16:15–16:30 – Q&A session
- 16:30–17:00 – Wrap up & closing
- 18:00 – networking dinner
Roundtable discussions of participants’ ideas for papers to be submitted to AMP (350- word abstract).
Participants will be matched with an AMP Associate Editor, who will discuss and provide feedback on the presented idea.
Participation in this part of the workshop is limited (max 36, selected based on submitted abstracts).

- Irina Burns, Academy of Management
Irina Burns joined AOM in 2015 with many years of publishing experience, focusing primarily on journals and copyright. She is currently Senior Managing Editor for Academy of Management Perspectives and Academy of Management Review, as well as Licensing Services Manager for the Academy.
- Bonnie Hayden Chang, AMP Associate Editor
Dr. Bonnie Hayden Cheng is a Professor and Department Head, Department of Management at the College of Business at City University of Hong Kong. She obtained her PhD in Organizational Behavior and Human Resource Management from the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto.
Her research is in the area of corporate wellness, leadership, and proactive workplace behaviors. She has published in journals such as Academy of Management Journal, Journal of Applied Psychology, and Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Her research has been featured in leading media sources such as The Wall Street Journal, Financial Times, and Harvard Business Review.
She is a Subject Matter Expert of the Academy of Management and on the Editorial Board of the Academy of Management Journal.
- Stacey Fitzimmons, AMP Associate Editor
Stacey Fitzimmons is an Associate Professor of International Management at the Peter B. Gustavson School of Business, University of Victoria, Canada. She is also a Research Associate at the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS), South Africa. She earned her PhD from the Beedie School of Business at Simon Fraser University (SFU).
Her current research examines how globally mobile employees—such as migrants, immigrants, refugees, and other diverse groups—contribute to their teams and organizations. Dr. Fitzsimmons’s research has been published in Academy of Management Review, Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of World Business, Human Resource Management Review, among others. She also commonly publishes practitioner translations through Harvard Business Review’s website and The Conversation.
She serves on the editorial review boards of Journal of International Business Studies, Journal of International Business Policy, Academy of Management Review, and Journal of Business Research. Dr. Fitzsimmons is currently in her second term on the board of the Women of the Academy of International Business (WAIB). Dr. Fitzsimmons has received several accolades for her contributions to the field, including an Emerging Scholar Award, the International Human Resources Scholarly Research Award from the AOM’s HR Division, and a Best Reviewer Award. During her last sabbatical she held visiting positions at the University of Auckland, University of Sydney, and GIBS.

December 9 participants will be required to submit a 350 word abstract by 15.11 – 20 participants will be selected for 1:1 feedback jointly by EBS supervisors and AOM editorial team.
