About the contest<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The primary aim of the contest \u201eTeadus 3 minutiga\u201c <\/strong>ja sellele eelnevate koolituste peamine eesm\u00e4rk on pakkuda noortele teadlastele praktilist kogemust avalikkuse ees esinemiseks ja oma teadust\u00f6\u00f6 tutvustamiseks. \u00dcritustesarja laiem eesm\u00e4rk on eestikeelse teaduskommunikatsiooni ja teadusliku s\u00f5navara edendamine. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the initiators and long-standing driving forces behind the competition, Academician Tarmo Soomere<\/strong> has emphasised that the essence of the three-minute lecture is neither the lecture itself nor the precise use of 180 seconds: \u201cThe point lies elsewhere. The point is to learn how to cope with unusual and highly responsible situations. Situations in which, despite the circumstances, one must be able to articulate one\u2019s position briefly, clearly, and precisely.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since 2026, the training programme and the final gala competition are organised by the Estonian Academy of Sciences<\/strong> in cooperation with the Estonian Doctoral School<\/strong>. The organising team also includes the Estonian Research Council<\/strong> and Estonian Young Academy of Sciences<\/strong>.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 2026 contest<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

The first training session of the 2026 competition took place on 22\u201324 May<\/strong> at the Heimtali Museum of the Estonian National Museum (ERM), located in a historic village schoolhouse. Fourteen doctoral candidates participated in the programme, developing skills in communicating scientific messages clearly, writing popular science articles, overcoming presentation anxiety, engaging audiences, and presenting effectively on camera.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A follow-up training session will be held on 28 September<\/strong> and will focus on further developing participants\u2019 on-camera presentation skills.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The competition will culminate in a public final gala on 6 October,<\/strong> where doctoral researchers will present their three-minute research talks before a live audience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
