08/04/2024 17:0012/04/2024 16:00

Estonian Academy of Arts, 8-12 April 2024
Põhja pst 7, Tallinn

We live in an age of perpetual distraction. We are in the midst of an “attention economy” around which contemporary capitalism now pivots and which has, its flipside, a growing sense that our distractibility now defines our contemporary world.

The intensive course will focus on recent discussions in contemporary art and curating around the notions such as distraction, speed, slowness, empathy, and curiosity.

Topics covered:

  • Distraction and the “Attention Economy”
  • Distraction: A History
  • Empathy, Curiosity – and their Limits?
  • The Virtues of Slowness?
  • Attention and Distraction, Stillness and Speed in Art and Art History
  • Distraction and Display
  • Curating and Distraction
  • Distraction and Pedagogy
