The winter school is intended for doctoral researchers, master’s students and supervisors in the Arts and Humanities.

General information
We live in a time often described as a transition, a crisis, or even an interregnum, when inherited frameworks no longer fully explain the present and the contours of the future remain uncertain. Geopolitical instability, war, ecological crisis, technological acceleration and social polarisation have unsettled familiar ideas of security, progress, democracy and human agency.

At the same time, multiple “post-” conditions remind us that transitions involve both rupture and the continuing influence of earlier orders. The future, in this sense, is also a cultural and imaginative question, shaped through stories, images, memories, historical analogies and artistic practices.

The winter school invites doctoral researchers to explore how the humanities and the arts can help us understand such periods of insecurity and transition. It asks how memory and history shape expectations of the future, how alternative imaginaries emerge in literature, art, media, heritage and philosophy, and what concepts and methods cultural research can bring to the study of change.

Rather than predicting what lies ahead, the aim is to examine how futures become thinkable and how our interpretations of the present shape the possibilities we are able to imagine.

The number of participants is not limited.
