Frontiers in the ecological knowledge

In the Oecologicum building of the University of Tartu (J. Liivi 2, Tartu)

The course is open to doctoral researchers and their supervisors in natural and agricultural sciences.

Scientists from the new generation will give up-to-date overviews on hot topics on biodiversity, ecosystems and nature conservation:

  • Rob Lewis (Norway): “Biodiversity monitoring in an exponential age”
  • Lena Neuenkamp (Germany): “How to comprehensively evaluate ecosystem restoration success?”
  • Petr Kohout (Czechia): “Global change and mycorrhizal fungi: shifts in diversity and distribution”
  • Antonio Gazol (Spain): “The response of woody plants to climate change: uncertainties and challenges”
  • Sabrina Träger (Germany): “Facets of the conservation of plant species and their interactions”
  • Lars Götzenberger (Czechia): “The plant spectrum of form and function: how many dimensions do we need?”

Lectures start at 10:00 and last full day (lunch and coffee breaks are provided).

From 19.00, the course continues with an informal meeting with the lecturers to discuss topics relevant to PhD students, such as funding and post-doctoral options, how academia interacts with enterprises in different countries, and how to find a balance between work and private life. Food is provided.
