Doctoral supervision: Methods and tools

04/12 09:00 05/12 15:00

On-site in Tallinn (exact location will be shared with registered participants).

This workshop will be conducted in English.

Workshop for the supervisors in science and technology, and medical sciences.

Are you a busy academic looking for strategies on how to make your research supervision even more efficient and joyful? Are some doctoral researchers easier to supervise than others? Are you curious to learn how your colleagues supervise their doctoral researchers?

Then you will find this workshop very relevant. You will get hands-on tools for conducting high-quality and professional research supervision, and you will get an opportunity to systematically exchange experiences with other supervisors in Estonian universities. The workshop is relevant for new as well as experienced supervisors.

The programme includes sessions about how to align expectations efficiently, provide feedback that ensures writing progress and high-quality products, how to support doctoral researchers as responsible, active, independent drivers of their own projects, and how to keep them on track and prevent delays.

The teaching form is highly interactive, combined with research-based short lectures.

The training will be conducted by Gitte Wichmann-Hansen. Dr. Gitte Wichmann-Hansen is a Professor at the University of Agder and a Senior Researcher at Aarhus University. She also runs the consultancy Academic Supervision, which provides high-quality professional training for doctoral supervisors. Her research focuses on doctoral supervision, and she has published more than one hundred works in this field. For more than 15 years, Gitte has conducted workshops for supervisors at different career stages in universities across Europe.
