Qualitative research methods: Workshop on content, narrative, and critical discourse analysis

This workshop will be conducted in English.
Credits: 2 ECTS (32 h contact lessons, 20 h individual work)
In this course, students learn to employ various qualitative methods of content, narrative, and critical discourse analysis, and complete an assignment that is also presented at the end of the course. In the assignment, students are expected to use qualitative material from their dissertation work in progress, select and develop a method for analyzing that material, and conduct a preliminary analysis of it.
The course is worth 2 ECTS and participants fulfilling the requirements for passing the course will be issued a certificate. Assessment: Active participation during the course and completing the assignments. Deadline for the final assignment in March 2026.
Instructor:
Prof. Jukka Törrönen is Professor of Sociology at Stockholm University, known for his extensive work with qualitative methodologies, particularly content, narrative, and discourse analysis. His research advances both the theoretical and methodological development of these approaches, making him a leading voice in their application to social research.
