„The art of the 20th before and after History“ is a cycle of seminars on the various ways that artists of the 20th centuries adopted the longue durée of time available to them. Rather than a simple questioning on origin, the most interesting cases show how prehistory been conjugated to the critical present. And yet, the availability of the deep and extended past changed the historical consciousness in an contradictory way : not only it brought out „a sense of an ending“, the inescapable „naturelness“ of history, but it also accentuated the feeling of accumulation, museification and exhaustion. It is this contradictory impulse that will be at the core of our seminars.
The facilitator is Maria Stavrinaki from the University of Lausanne.
