Drafting the Methodology, Results, & Discussion Sections of Your Research Article
22/10 10:00 – 11:45
Online (via Zoom)
The webinar will be held in English.
Do you need help structuring the core sections of your research article? Build on your rhetorical analysis skills to tackle the IMRaD sections of your doctoral writing project - together
General information
In this hands-on workshop, we will present established rhetorical models to identify the moves and steps in the Methods, Results, and Discussion sections of canonical IMRaD research articles . Together in your small discipline-specific group (or with your supervisor only), you will adapt these rhetorical models to critically assess these sections in both current research articles and your own writing.
We encourage you to bring your draft section in any stage of development (from initial ideas to completed draft) as well as two published articles that you are currently using.
Supervisors will further develop strategies for providing structured, text-focused feedback on core sections of research articles.
By the end of these workshop series participants will be able to:
- Apply and modify rhetorical frameworks to critically assess writing within IMRaD structured research articles (including own and peers' writing)
- Apply the Peer Feedback Process (PFP) Model to give and receive periodic feedback
- Establish or participate in ongoing writing partnerships or feedback groups
- Implement sustainable writing and feedback practices throughout their doctoral journey
Supervisors will additionally be able to:
- Apply structured approaches to respond to doctoral writing
- Support the development of independent academic writing through targeted feedback strategies
