Tartu University Oecologicum, Liivi 2, Tartu
The Institute of Ecology and Earth Sciences of the University of Tartu in cooperation with the Estonian Fund for Nature and the Environmental Board with Estonian Doctoral School is organizing a seminar day on the topic of watercourses. While last year the topic was "Vee teed linnas" ("Water Roads in the City"), this year the seminar day will address the topic of watercourses in a broader sense. Various topics related to the ecology, restoration and management of watercourses will be discussed.
The keynote speaker will be Ellen Wohl , a geomorphologist from Colorado State University who works with natural restoration methods and will speak on the topic: “Messy Rivers are Healthy Rivers: The Role of Spatial Heterogeneity in Sustaining River Ecosystems”. The exact agenda and topics of the presentations will be announced at the end of May. In addition, this year's seminar day will feature a short presentation block, where several ongoing water related projects and research topics will be introduced.
The event is aimed at officials, experts, scientists, consultants, engineers, nature guides, students and others who come into contact with watercourses and riparian areas in their daily work.
