Academy of Management (AOM) Teaching Workshop

Target group
The workshop is intended for doctoral researchers and supervisors in the faculty of Social Sciences, specifically those conducting research on or teaching entrepreneurship, innovation, and related topics. The workshop is explicitly designed for doctoral researchers who often carry teaching responsibilities.

Format
Interactive workshop including lectures + group-based tasks + study visit to a company.

General information
Participants will learn effectuation, the core framework for entrepreneurship education that teaches students how expert entrepreneurs actually think. Saras Sarasvathy, the creator of effectuation theory, will explore best practices for teaching effectuation in the classroom.

Case method experts will present strategies for case teaching so that educators can challenge students to solve real-world problems in the classroom.

Participants will visit an Estonian AI start-up to hear the founders’ experiences first-hand so that educators bring practitioner insights into the classroom.

Facilitators

• Dr Saras Sarasvathy is a Professor Emerita at the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia. She is a leading scholar of entrepreneurial expertise and the creator of effectuation theory.
• Dr Indu Khurana is the Chair of the ENT Division Teaching Committee and Associate Professor of Economics and Business at Hampden-Sydney College.
• Vicky Lester is the Chief Executive Officer of the Case Centre, and she speaks about the case method at conferences around the world.
