Writing Retreat for Doctoral Researchers

Target group
The writing retreat is intended for doctoral researchers in Natural and Agricultural Sciences.

General information
The aim of the writing retreat is to provide doctoral researchers in the natural and agricultural sciences with a calm and supportive environment where they can dedicate focused time to writing their dissertation or research article, discuss their work with fellow doctoral researchers, and receive constructive feedback.

Independent writing time will be combined with short seminars and workshops focusing on practical approaches to scientific writing, developing a clear core message and story for a research article, and communicating research effectively. 

The writing retreat will focus on:

• AI as a writing partner – how to use AI effectively and thoughtfully when writing a research article without losing your own ideas and voice;
• The core message and story of your article – how to identify the one key message your article is really trying to communicate and build a coherent story around it;  
• Communicating your research – how to explain the importance of your research clearly and simply to both scientific and broader audiences. 

Accommodation
The Doctoral School will provide participants with three nights of accommodation in twin rooms and meals.

Transport
Public transport tickets and travel by private car will not be reimbursed. Participants are responsible for arranging their own travel to and from the venue.

To apply, please complete the registration form, which also asks you to briefly describe the topic you plan to work on during the writing retreat. Applications are open until midnight on 30 September. 
The maximum number of participants is 25.

Priority will be given to doctoral researchers in the branch of Natural and Agricultural Sciences and to applicants who are able to participate for the entire duration of the writing retreat. If the number of applications exceeds the available places, participants will be selected based on their academic background and the relevance of their research topic. In accordance with the funding conditions of the Doctoral School, priority will be given to doctoral researchers from Estonian universities.
